It was always my intention to open up involvement with the Social Media Surgery events and I am thrilled that people are asking for an opportunity to be on the panel after just the third monthly event.

If you’d like to join the panel of Social Media ‘Surgeons’ at a Manchester Social Media Surgery event, please reply to this discussion.

Please include the following in your reply:

•    your name
•    name of the organisation you represent
•    link to your website
•    a brief description of a social media project you have worked on/are working on

Here’s an example:

Chi-chi Ekweozor, Real Fresh TV, www.realfresh.tv Project: www.contactingtheworld.org

How it works:
Panellists at Social Media Surgery events are limited to just three so there are only 3 such Surgeon ‘spots’ available at each event.

I will contact potential surgeons from this list at least a week before each month’s event to confirm availability.  Names of surgeons who can make it will be added to the Event page for the next Social Media Surgery.

The small print:
I’ll try to accommodate all requests wherever possible.  I cannot anticipate problems with this arrangement but in the interests of transparency please note that myself and the Social Media Cafe Manchester organising team who agreed for the Social Media Surgery events to start in the first place reserve the right to refuse requests.

Thanks for reading this far. Now put your name down!

Look forward to welcoming you to on the panel.

Hi Tracey,

Thanks for your comments. Well considered they are too.

The way we've run the Social Media Surgery events in Manchester is rather different from those in Birmingham and other cities.

We're using a 'doctor's surgery' metaphor to describe what is essentially a free form discussion with a panel of 'knowledgeable social media practitioners’.

Anyone that walks into a Manchester Social Media Surgery event can join in and contribute to the discussion. As you can read from the live blog from the last event, many have found the events very welcoming and non-threatening.

We actually find that the people who come in to the events sometimes know more than the panellists!

I decided to use the notion of panellists because in getting the Manchester Social Media Surgery events off the ground, I found that presenting a number of knowledgeable individuals as ‘panellists’ helped people asses what they could expect to get out of attending the event.

Hope that helps clarify things.

Don’t let the notion of 3 panellists spots put you off attending. Everyone that attends gets to know each other relatively well after two short hours!

Hi,

I'm not completely sure whether my social media experience will be of great interest to the surgery but here goes.

Hi Jess,

Many thanks for this!

Impressive resume...

I’ll be in touch via email once we’ve got details of the venue for the next Social Media Surgery – likely to be outside the city centre this time....

Thanks again.

Best,

Chi-chi
